Well, at least as far back as 1939’s Gone with the Wind, which is as far back as this list all about iconic movies and their less iconic alternate endings go. It’s also one of the less insanely bleak, as we found out when compiling this wild list of what could have been! While some movies had some pretty hopeful outlooks — Terminator 2 and Blade Runner come to mind as deleted finales with much more happy go lucky conclusions — others like Get Out, First Blood, and even National Lampoon’s Vacation had much darker endings before studio bigwigs, test audiences, and the filmmakers themselves decided to change things up. Some of them do very little to alter the original version, while others will change your perception forever! Maybe. Who knows! We’re going through the decades — from the ‘30s through the ‘70s, ‘80s, and all the way to the last few years to see just how different some of our favorite movies were in their final moments before edits were made pre- and post-production!
