How Anime Took Over The World
A detailed look into the rise and evolution of anime Subscribe: http://bit.ly/Subscribe-to-Screenrant Dive into the History & Future of all things Anime! From Astro Boy to My Hero Academia, we are going to look through how anime has adapted and changed (for better or for worse) through its localization to the West. We are going to start in the 1960s, with the hits Astro Boy & Speed Racer, and how they reached American soil. Unfortunately for many viewers, many American producers ‘Westernized’ the anime for the next few years, heavily changing names, themes, and storylines all together in order to fit a Western Audience. Through the rise of science fiction stories like Voltron, and Star Blazers, anime started to gain more acclaim through its fast action & amazing visuals. However, everything changed when Akira was introduced to the West, revolutionizing the industry & how anime was perceived in the West. Taking advantage of the opening created by Akira, anime like Dragon Ball Z, Sailor Moon, and Neon Genesis Evangelion could now blossom & gain unprecedented popularity in America through shows like Toonami & Adult Swim. As anime evolved, so too did the distribution & diversity, through anime ranging from Cowboy Bebop, to Naruto, to Attack on Titan. The 2000s to 2010s were a time of piracy & intrigue as audiences pushed away from Western censorship & changes. Streaming services took over and anime has been successfully flourishing through the diversity and challenging of the medium. Anime has never looked better, and the future only looks brighter.
