Description: An American & German talk about the weird, often conflicting, sometimes really exhausting list of dos & don'ts we've spent so much effort and energy in our day-to-day lives thinking about and doing, trying to "stay safe" and not get sexually assaulted. Women hear it from men, women, teachers, friends, parents, bosses, dates, co-workers and more. We get it in magazines, TV shows, movies & newspapers. The burden is put on our shoulders to "stay safe". The question I keep asking myself: why are men, women, teachers, friends, parents, bosses, dates, co-workers, etc. not expending the same amount of energy telling people not to attack? Of course not all men sexually assault!! And it's very important to remember that men can and are sexually assaulted too. But in our society basically all women have the burden to stay safe put on their shoulders. And if a woman gets sexually assaulted, it happens again and again that victim blaming is used and taken seriously in the court of law, with questions like: "well, what was she wearing?", "was she drunk?", "did she have on a short skirt?" " how much makeup was she wearing?" "was she flirting with him?" "how many people has she slept with in the past?" to excuse the behavior of the perpetrator. Which is NOT OKAY. It doesn't matter what anyone was wearing, drinking, doing in the past, etc - getting raped is never, ever the fault of the person who gets raped. It is ALWAYS and 100% a choice that the person who did the raping made, and it is ALWAYS 100% their fault. If after watching this video or reading the previous text, you're thinking, "But! But! But!
